报告题目Effects of Hydrogen Sulfide and Ferrous Ion on Carbon Steel Corrosion by Sulfate Reducing Bacteria

Prof. Tingyue Gu

报告时间:201914周五下午3:00

报告地点:化学楼二楼一号会议室

人:刘宏芳教授

报告人简介:

Prof. Tingyue Gu obtained his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 1985. He earned a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University in 1990. He worked as a postdoctoral biotechnologist for Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before joining Ohio University in 1992, where he is currently a full professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He is also a lecture professor at Nankai University and “111 Plan” honorary professor at University of Science and Technology Beijing. He is an associate editor of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering.  He is a leading expert in biocorrosion research who developed several mechanisms, theories and the world’s first mechanistic biocorrosion prediction model. His research group is part of the Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology at Ohio University that is world leader in internal corrosion research.

报告简介:

Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) is a major problem caused by microbial biofilms in many industrial settings such as oil and gas, water utilities and cooling water systems. It accounts for roughly 20% of all corrosion damages. Sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) are the most important corrosive anaerobes because sulfate is ubiquitous in nature. Carbon steel MIC by SRB is the most investigated topic in MIC. However, there are considerable misunderstandings in its mechanisms. This presentation demonstrates how superficial observations and interpretations can lead to erroneous conclusions while theory-guided and carefully planned causal-relationship studies can pin down the true intrinsic mechanisms, leading to breakthroughs in this key topic in MIC.
